This stage is focused on assessment in order for me to clearly understand the issues that you are facing and how you have tried to manage them in the past. This is a vital step as it underpins the planning for the counselling sessions to follow. It also is a time where trust and rapport can be created between-us as we form a working alliance. This stage ends with a clear and mutual understanding of the key issues that need to be addressed and a beginning is made on improving the relationship.
Stage 2 – unlearning/relearning
In this stage we work on the key issues that are affecting your relationship. A vital component of this stage is relationship education because most relationship problems occur from the lack of understanding and skills associated with relationship success. There is an old chinese proverb, "give a person some fish and feed him for a night but teach a person to fish and feed him/her for a life time".
Stage 3- Mastery and Committment
In this stage and throughout the counselling and coaching process we work together to ensure that the improvements in the relationship are sustained. This is a challenging process and part of my role is to support the changes that you need to make and hold you accountable to do the required work.
